We love this bread! We use it as pita bread or just fold it over and stuff it with hummus and veggies! I use the same recipe for pizza crust or take the smaller pieces to make individual size pizzas.
2 tsp dry active yeast
1 1/2 c. warm water
3 1/2 c. whole wheat flour (white whole wheat works great!)
1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp maple syrup, agave, or brown rice syrup
- Put yeast, syrup, and water in a large mixing bowl and let sit for about 10 minutes.
- Add flour and salt to yeast mixture.
- Knead with hands a few minutes then let sit covered for about 30-45 minutes to let rise... If making pizza, let it rise even longer if you have time.
- Heat a skillet on low-medium while preparing the dough.
- If making Naan or Pita bread, seperate dough into 8-10 small balls. Roll each ball into 1/4" thick circular pieces. (If making pizza, just roll out to desired size and thickness. Bake at 450 degrees for about 5 minutes, top and then bake an additional 10 minutes.)
- Cook in preheated skillet for about 30-45 seconds on each side (if skillet is hot already). If the bread cooks too long, it will get too crispy and will not be able to be folded easily.
- Let cool and store in fridge in gallon size ziploc bag.
